7-Day Itinerary for Kilimanjaro: Machame Route
📍Day 1: Machame Gate to Machame Camp

Elevation: 1,490 m to 2,835 m (4,888 ft to 9,300 ft)
Distance: Approximately 11 km (7 miles)
Duration: 5-7 hours

Highlights:
Arrive at Machame Gate for registration and a briefing.
Hike through lush rainforest, spotting diverse flora and fauna.
Arrive at Machame Camp, set up your tents, and enjoy dinner.


📍Day 2: Machame Camp to Shira Camp

Elevation: 2,835 m to 3,750 m (9,300 ft to 12,300 ft)
Distance: Approximately 5 km (3 miles)
Duration: 4-6 hours

Highlights:
Begin your ascent through heath and moorland, with stunning views of Kilimanjaro.
Reach Shira Camp, where you can enjoy panoramic vistas and relax. 


📍Day 3: Shira Camp to Barranco Camp

Elevation: 3,750 m to 3,960 m (12,300 ft to 13,000 ft) and then back down
Distance: Approximately 10 km (6 miles)
Duration: 6-8 hours

Highlights:
Hike to Lava Tower (4,600 m / 15,100 ft) for acclimatization.
Descend to Barranco Camp, allowing your body to adjust to the altitude.
Enjoy the stunning views of the Great Barranco Wall.


📍Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Elevation: 3,960 m to 4,035 m (13,000 ft to 13,250 ft)
Distance: Approximately 7 km (4 miles)
Duration: 4-5 hours

Navigate the Barranco Wall, a thrilling climb that offers breathtaking views.
Continue to Karanga Camp, your last stop before the summit.


📍Day 5: Karanga Camp to High Camp (Kibo Camp)

Elevation: 4,035 m to 4,700 m (13,250 ft to 15,420 ft)
Distance: Approximately 3 km (2 miles)
Duration: 3-4 hours

Highlights:
Shorter trek to Kibo Camp to prepare for the summit attempt.
Rest and eat an early dinner, then go to bed early in preparation for the summit.


📍Day 6: Summit Day – Kibo Camp to Uhuru Peak, then descend to Mweka Camp

Elevation: 4,700 m to 5,895 m (15,420 ft to 19,341 ft) and back down to 3,100 m (10,171 ft)
Distance: Approximately 22 km (13.6 miles) round trip
Duration: 12-15 hours

Highlights:
Depart Kibo Camp around midnight to begin your ascent to Uhuru Peak.
Experience the breathtaking sunrise from the summit.
After celebrating your achievement, descend back to Mweka Camp for your final night on the mountain.


📍Day 7: Final Day: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

Elevation: 3,100 m to 1,490 m (10,171 ft to 4,888 ft)
Distance: Approximately 10 km (6 miles)
Duration: 3-4 hours

Highlights:
Hike down through the rainforest to Mweka Gate.
Celebrate your successful climb and receive your summit certificate!
Return to your accommodations in Moshi or Arusha.
