Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, our representative will greet you and transfer you to your hotel in Arusha. After you settle in, our safari manager will meet with you for a comprehensive safari briefing. Enjoy a relaxing evening as you savor dinner and immerse yourself in the African way of life. Your first night will be spent at a hotel or lodge in Arusha.
Day 2: Arusha – Tarangire National Park Non-game-viewing travel time: 2–3 hours – Distance: 152.7 km
After breakfast, you will meet our professional driver-guide at your hotel for a brief safari orientation. We’ll then drive to Tarangire National Park for an exciting day of game viewing. The park stretches along the Tarangire River and features low-lying hills on the Great Rift Valley floor. Its diverse vegetation includes acacia woodlands and iconic giant African baobab trees, with expansive swamps located in the south.
During Tanzania’s dry season, both the river and the swamps attract a remarkable variety of wildlife. Tarangire National Park is renowned for hosting some of the largest elephant herds in Africa and is also home to three rare species: the greater kudu, the fringed-eared oryx, and a few ashy starlings. In the evening, you will enjoy dinner and overnight accommodations at your choice of lodge, tented camp, hotel, basic camp, or luxury facility.
Day 3: Tarangire National Park – Serengeti National Park
Non-game-viewing travel – Approximately 2 hours
Distance: 130.7 km km
After breakfast, we will depart from the campsite/lodge and drive to the Serengeti via the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, eventually arriving on the vast Serengeti plains for a unique and spectacular wildlife viewing experience. Along the way, you will pass one of the world’s most significant prehistoric archaeological sites, Olduvai Gorge (optional), before continuing through the scrublands.
The wooded knolls around Naabi Hill Gate mark the official entrance to the Serengeti, leading into the park’s signature wide-open plains. This stretch beautifully embodies the meaning of “Serengeti,” derived from the Maasai word “Siringet,” which is often translated as “the land that flows on forever.”
Serengeti National Park spans 6,000 square miles of pristine land, offering not only expansive vistas but also hosting the largest migration of mammals on Earth, including 1.5 million wildebeest. Dinner and overnight accommodations will be at the Seronera campsite/lodge or tented camp, located in the heart of Serengeti National Park.
Day 4: Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, you will embark on a full day of game viewing in Serengeti National Park. As Tanzania’s second-largest national park, it spans nearly 6,000 square miles of grassland plains, savannah, kopjes, hills, woodlands, and riverine forests. The Grumeti, Mbalageti, and Mara river systems are vital water sources and prime locations for wildlife observation.
While the park is famous for the spectacular migration of wildebeest and zebras, it is equally renowned for its big predators, including cheetahs, leopards, and large pride of lions, along with clans of hyenas. You can also expect to see gazelles, buffalo, giraffes, topis, hartebeests, ostriches, and jackals. However, it is the remarkable diversity of wildlife and habitats that will truly captivate you.
The greater Serengeti ecosystem encompasses the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, the Maasai Mara in Kenya, and several surrounding wildlife-protected areas, totaling nearly 17,000 square miles—an area larger than the combined states of Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. You will enjoy dinner and overnight accommodations at the Seronera campsite/lodge/luxury tented camps, located in the heart of Serengeti National Park.
Day 5: Serengeti National Park – Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Non-game-viewing travel – Approx 2 hours
Distance:150 to 200 kilometers
Approximately 3 to 4 hours
After breakfast, you will depart from the Serengeti and head to Ngorongoro Crater. Upon arrival, you will descend into the crater for an unforgettable game drive, complete with a picnic lunch. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Ngorongoro Crater supports a permanent population of over 30,000 animals. Due to its 2,000-foot-high walls, only a few species migrate in and out, allowing for exceptional wildlife viewing. During your drive, you can expect to see lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, hippos, flamingos, jackals, rhinos, antelopes, and a variety of bird species. The crater is also home to the rare black rhino, which is nearly extinct in Tanzania. With a bit of luck, you may even encounter the “Big Five” during this thrilling game drive. Dinner and overnight accommodations will be at your choice of lodge or campsite in the Ngorongoro Conservation area.
Day 6: Ngorongoro Crater Tour – Arusha to Zanzibar Island
After breakfast at Ngorongoro Crater, you will drive to Arusha Airport for your flight to Zanzibar. You will depart Arusha at 12:15 PM and arrive in Zanzibar at 2:20 PM with Coastal Aviation, landing on the beautiful Spice Island. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by our ground tour operator and transferred to your hotel at Kiwengwa Beach. The rest of the afternoon is yours to relax and enjoy the stunning white sand beaches and crystal-clear blue waters of the island. You will spend the night at Kiwengwa Beach.
Day 7/8/9: Zanzibar Beach Holiday Extension – Relax on the Beaches of Zanzibar
Spend your days relaxing on the stunning beaches of Kiwengwa, doing as much or as little as you like—this time is entirely yours to enjoy!
After breakfast, you can choose to visit Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On the way, consider taking the famous Spice Tour, where you’ll learn about a variety of spices and organically grown herbs, including their traditional uses in medicine, cosmetics, and cooking. Following the tour, you’ll be treated to a delightful lunch featuring these spices and fresh fruits. In the afternoon, embark on a historical tour of Stone Town, wandering through its enchanting streets where history comes alive.
During your tour, you will visit notable sites such as the House of Wonders, the Palace Museum (People’s Palace), and the Arab Fort, among others. Experience Zanzibar’s vibrant markets, winding alleyways, intricately carved doors, two cathedrals, and numerous mosques!
