Itinerary

📍Day 1: Arusha – Momella Gate to Miriakamba Hut

Distance: 10 km (6.2 miles)

Elevation Gain: 1,000 m (3,280 ft)

Trekking Time: 4–6 hours

Your adventure begins with a scenic drive from Arusha to Momella Gate, the starting point of your trek. After completing the park entry formalities, set off on a gradual ascent through lush forests, alive with the sounds of birdsong and rustling leaves. Keep an eye out for wildlife such as buffalo, giraffes, and colobus monkeys. As you climb higher, the trail opens up to panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes. Arrive at Miriakamba Hut (2,514 m) in the late afternoon, where you’ll enjoy a warm meal and rest for the night.

📍Day 2: Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut

Distance: 8 km (5 miles)

Elevation Gain: 1,056 m (3,465 ft)

Trekking Time: 3–5 hours

After a hearty breakfast, embark on a steeper climb through montane forests and heather zones. The trail winds through dense vegetation before emerging into open grasslands with sweeping vistas of the surrounding plains. Reach Saddle Hut (3,570 m) by early afternoon, where you can relax or take an optional acclimatization hike to Little Meru (3,820 m). This short hike offers stunning views and helps prepare you for the summit push.

📍Day 3: Saddle Hut – Summit – Momella Gate – Arusha

Distance: 18 km (11.2 miles)

Elevation Gain: 992 m (3,255 ft) to the summit; descent 2,048 m (6,719 ft)

Trekking Time: 10–12 hours

Wake up in the early hours for a pre-dawn summit attempt. The trail to Socialist Peak (4,562 m) is challenging but immensely rewarding. Trek under the stars, navigating rocky ridges and steep inclines as the sun rises, bathing the landscape in golden light. From the summit, enjoy unparalleled views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the Crater Rim, and the expansive plains below.

Descend back to Saddle Hut for a short rest and refreshments before continuing the descent to Momella Gate, where you’ll be met by your guide for a transfer back to Arusha. Celebrate your achievement with memories that will last a lifetime.
